“Happily Never After”

Being an Instagram user, I am always looking for new pages to follow. A few months ago I came across a page that uses Disney characters to promote social awareness to different causes. One of the highlights this person chose was the topis of domestic violence. These advertisements are found in bus stops in Holland. Using pathos, the designer referenced women to princesses and domestic abuse relatable to childhood dreams. Every girl wants to be a princess, and fairy tales often end up with a prince saving the day, getting the girl and living happily every after. In this visual, the focus is that-visual. barely any text but the intended audience is able to understand and convey the meaning strictly from the visual. The text compliments the graphic-not too overpowering and solely on the bottom to keep the eyes on the effects of spouse abuse, however the text alone probably wouldn’t have the same effect as the picture above. Making Ariel more human only adds to the theme of treating ladies like princesses and men, the princes.
